About buying selling or renting
Marriott Destination Points
This website now fully supports the ability of Marriott Destination Points
owners to sell their Destination Points membership to another person, or to
"rent" some of their points to another Destination Points member.
Renting
Marriott Destination Points
Destination Points members can use their points to make reservations at any
Marriott resort. It often happens that they need a few more points than they own
in order to make a desired reservation. Or they may have a few points left over
after making a reservation.
Marriott allows Destination Points members to transfer points from one owner to
another. This site allows Destination Points owners to post searchable listings
of available points for transfer to other Destination Points owners. These
are single-use transfers from one member to another for a mutually agreed-upon
price, and are referred to as Destination Points Rentals.
Since they are treated in every way like a normal rental (a single-time use of
something owned by another person), the ability to post, modify, delete, or
search Destination Points rentals is located at the Rental Center in the
navigation menu on the left.
If you need some extra Marriott Destination Points to make or extend a reservation
To rent points from another
Marriott Destination Points member, go to the "Rental Center
/ Search Rentals" link in the navigation menu on the left, find owners offering
points for rent, contact them, and work out a mutually agreeable price for the
points. Then have the person renting you the points contact Marriott Owner
Services and ask them to transfer the points to your account.
Be sure you have a clear understanding of any expiration date for use of any
points you rent.
If you have extra Marriott Destination Points you can't use this year and want to sell:
Go to the "Rental Center / Add Rental Listing" and add your listing showing the number of points you
have to rent, and your asking price. It will cost you $5 to post the listing,
which will be active for 90 days (we treat these listings the same as weeks rental
listings)
Another Destination Club member may contact you to work out an agreeable price
to rent your points, after which you call Marriott Owner Services and ask them
to transfer your points to the buyer's account for one-time use.
Make sure the buyer has a clear understanding of any restrictions on the dates
he may use those points to make or extend his reservation.
Marriott
Destination Points Membership Resales
A Destination Points member may find they can no longer make use of their
ownership and decide to permanently sell their points to someone else.
This is similar in concept to a Weeks owner who wants to sell his week in the
resale market. These permanent sales are referred to as Destination Points
Membership resales.
There are some associated Marriott fees involved in making the buyer a
full-fledged Destination Points member. We recommend using an experienced broker
or closing agent to complete these transactions.
Help is available
.
Since such sales are treated in every way like a normal resale (a
permanent sale of something owned to another person), the ability to post, modify, delete, or
search Destination Points Membership resales is located at the
Resale Center in the navigation menu on the left.
Posting a Destination Points membership for sale
Go to the "Resale Center / Add Resale Listing" and add your listing showing the number of points you
have to sell, and your asking price. It will cost you $15 to post the listing,
which will be active for 365 days (we treat these listings the same as weeks resale
listings)
A site member may contact you to work out an agreeable price
to purchase your points. Again, there are a number of additional details and
fees enforced by Marriott in order for the buyer to become a full-fledged
Marriott Destination Points member, which is why we recommend
using assistance
in these transactions.
Buying a Destination Points membership as a resale
Anyone can use the search facility of the Resale Center to find listing posted
by members of this site or brokers, contact them, and work out terms of a
mutually agreeable sale. Again, we recommend use of an experienced broker or
closing agent to complete these transactions to ensure all requirements for
Marriott Destination Points membership are met.
